Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Salt - Perfect Beach, Pool, and Lake Knife

A rustproof / corrosion free knife?  Yes it does exist and thankfully it's not made of ceramics.  The Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Salt uses Spyderco's H1 steel.  H1 steel is formulated to never rust or corrode, the main tradeoff for this is that it's edge retention is less than traditional knife steels.

While it doesn't hold an edge as long as S30V, S35V, VG10, ect, it still does a decent job.  With minimal effort I am able to get a hair popping edge on this little blade.  There are reports that the serrated edges really shine with this H1 steel, but I can only vouch for the plain edge version I have.

There are also reports of "work hardening" from sharpening and general use.  I haven't noticed this during my use.  To be fair, I only grab this knife if I'm going to beach, pool, lake, or any activity that involves water.  I've never let mine get what I'd consider dull either.

I've found that the smaller size makes this knife less threatening when used in public.  The blade on this is 2.25 inches in length.  I've even taken it on a few Carnival Cruises with no issue.  I do not take the knife with me when getting off the ship at the various ports.

I feel that the Dragonfly 2 Salt isn't intended to be an EDC knife.  Sure you can EDC it, but the other variants of the Dragonfly 2 are much better suited to every day carry.  As a knife you can take with you to the beach, pool, or lake the Dragonfly 2 Salt it perfect.  The H1 steel is ideal for wet environments.  Like every other Spyderco knife I've used, you can get this thing "scary sharp" so it'll be ready to go when called on.

To sum it all up, think of the Dragonfly 2 Salt as a purpose specific knife.  While H1 steel isn't the best choice for EDC, it is a fantastic companion for any activities on, above, or in water.  The claims of being rustproof and corrosion free are true.  I've deliberately tried to get this steel to rust and it just simply will not.  This is my default beach, pool, and lake knife.
